Why the way a website stores its layouts and content affects how easily development agents can help maintain it.

The practical question is access

A development agent works best when it can read components, styles and content, change files and produce a reviewable diff. A visual builder stores part of the website in its own editing model. How much an agent can do there depends on the interfaces and permissions available.

What a code-based workflow enables

A campaign page can reuse existing sections, tokens and content types in a repository. The proposed change can be reviewed alongside a preview. That makes repeated tasks easier to organise, provided the project already has a clear component system.

What the move does not solve

Unclear content, inconsistent components and missing business context still produce poor changes. Moving to Next.js does not by itself create a good editorial workflow. Define the CMS, preview and design rules as part of the project.

Keep publishing deliberate

Give agents the access needed for their task and keep credentials out of content and code. Decide who reviews changes and who publishes. The useful result is a shorter path from request to approved change, with ownership still clear.
