Judge a migration by maintenance, editing and business requirements, rather than the age or popularity of the platform.

Look at the recurring work

List the time spent on plugin conflicts, page-builder limitations, slow templates and changes that require specialist help. If these repeatedly block marketing or product work, a new foundation may be worth considering. If the current site works well, targeted fixes may be better value.

Separate the website from its editing tools

Next.js renders the website; it is not a CMS. Your editors still need a clear place to manage content and preview changes. WordPress can remain that source in a headless setup, or its content can move into a different CMS.

Inventory more than posts

Custom post types, ACF fields, shortcodes, media, forms, search and language plugins can all carry business logic. Map what each one does. Importing text without replacing those behaviours leaves a website that looks complete but cannot do its job.

Plan a measurable handover

Compare important user journeys before and after the move. Keep useful URLs, redirect changed ones, check enquiry delivery and assign responsibility for hosting and dependencies. A new stack changes maintenance; it does not eliminate it.
