The right Framer alternative depends on what your website should deliver over the next two years. If your team should keep designing visually, Webflow fits. If lots of content sits with a WordPress-experienced team, WordPress fits. If languages, enquiries into the CRM and working with AI are meant to grow, a website from custom code fits.

When do companies look for a Framer alternative?

Most look for a Framer alternative when the website should carry more than the launch. Framer is strong for a fast, well-designed start. For a launch page or a small marketing website, that is often exactly right.

Later, other wishes come up. These four are the ones we hear most often:

  • A second or third language is coming, with its own pages per language.
  • Marketing wants to publish campaign pages on the same day.
  • Enquiries should land directly in the CRM instead of the inbox.
  • The team wants to work on the website with AI assistants, as it already does with copy.

What this means for your business: If none of these points applies, stay with Framer. A switch without a reason costs time and money and brings not a single additional enquiry.

The Framer alternatives at a glance

Four paths are considered by most companies. The table compares them by what counts in daily work.

What this means for your business: Your Google positions do not depend on the platform but on a clean move. Decide by maintenance, ownership and speed.

Framer vs. Webflow: the smallest step

Webflow is the Framer alternative with the smallest switch. Both are visual builders in which design and website sit close together. Webflow gives you more order for lots of content, such as references, jobs or blog articles. In return, your team takes longer to work with it confidently.

What this means for your business: Webflow solves the topic of content volume, not the topic of ownership. A Webflow website also lives on the platform, and the costs rise with pages and editors. When Webflow itself becomes too tight, read the page Webflow agency and the guide Webflow to Next.js.

WordPress: lots of editorial work, lots of maintenance

WordPress is a Framer alternative for companies with a lot of content. Many editors already know it. There is a plugin for almost every function, and the software is free.

The price is maintenance. WordPress and its plugins need constant updates. Every plugin can make the site slower and more vulnerable.

What this means for your business: WordPress pays off if you publish many posts and someone takes care of maintenance. A middle path is headless WordPress: your editors keep writing in WordPress, visitors get a fast, secure website.

Framer or Next.js: when the website should belong to you

A website from custom code is the Framer alternative for companies whose website carries enquiries and revenue. We build it with Next.js. For you that means: your pages load fast, and your marketing assembles new pages itself from ready-made building blocks in a content system such as Sanity.

Four things follow from this that site builders do not offer in the same way:

  1. Campaign pages on the same day, with a preview before every publication.
  2. Enquiries directly in the CRM and data from your systems directly on the website.
  3. AI works along. An assistant prepares a landing page, a person approves it.
  4. Independence. Everything runs in your name. You can continue with any team.

The downside: for new building blocks you need a developer, internal or external. What this means for your business: this variant pays off when the website is a sales channel and not just a business card. More on the page Next.js.

Wix and Squarespace: only for small websites

Wix and Squarespace are Framer alternatives for very small websites. They are quick to set up and easy to use. Design, integrations and control over the details for Google are more limited than with Framer.

What this means for your business: If the website is meant to bring enquiries, the switch from Framer to one of these builders is usually a step backwards.

How does the switch succeed without losing enquiries?

The switch succeeds when every old address has its destination before the move. Whichever alternative you choose, these steps always apply:

  1. Collect all addresses of your website, including those from backlinks and Google Search Console.
  2. Assign a new page to every old address, including pages without a successor.
  3. Carry over titles and descriptions for Google.
  4. On moving day, switch on all redirects at the same time.
  5. In the weeks after, check positions and forms.

What this means for your business: a cleanly planned move costs no Google positions. An unplanned one costs pages that have brought enquiries for years. More in the guide Relaunch without SEO loss. You will find another comparison under WordPress, Webflow or Next.js, and working with AI is described in AI and Framer.

Frequently asked questions

Not in general. Webflow organizes lots of content better, Framer is faster for design and launch. In both, the website lives on the platform.

Not as a finished website that keeps running elsewhere. When you switch, it is rebuilt. Design and content are kept.

Not if every old address leads to its new page and titles and descriptions move along. Fluctuations in the first weeks are normal.

With custom code yes, often with a shorter load time. In other builders it depends on what the platform can do.

For new building blocks you need a developer, internal or external. Your marketing assembles pages from existing building blocks itself.
